Steve Taylor

Forum

I had the privilege of seeing Steve perform in 1983. In Puyallup, Washngton. Festival of Joy. At the time, I was pretty much a new christian. Unfortunately, I have since turned away from God. But I would like to say that his music kept me jazzed for many years.

Steve is without a doubt the greatest Christian artist of all time. It's
such an unbelievable shame that as of this writing (7/1/03), NONE
of his catalog is currently in print. Check E-Bay or HALF.COM
for the following (they are all worth it!!!) :

1) I Want To Be A Clone (released 1983), 2) Meltdown &
Meltdown Remixes (released 1984), 3) On The Fritz (released
1985), 4) Limelight (released 1986, a live album which was
never released on Compact Disc to my knowledge), 5) I Predict 1990 (released
1987), 6) The Best We Could Find (a compilation of 'greatest
hits' released 1988), 7) Chagall Guevara (his psuedo-
secular group release from 1991), 8) Squint (released 1993,
his most recent EXCELLENT studio album), and 9) Liver
(another live album, from 1995.) There is also an "I Predict
A Clone" tribute album to Steve from 1994 featuring many
up-and-coming CCM Alternative bands of that time, as well
as a compilation project from 2000 entitled "Roaring Lambs",
featuring "Shortstop", the only Taylor studio recording (that
we know of to exist) since 1993.

To clear up some confusion, the "Who Pays the Piper?"
album which some sites (including this one) list as being
Steve Taylor is NOT. NOT THIS Steve Taylor anyway. A
different Steve Taylor.

By the way, if you are still needing more Taylor-made
music after hearing the following, check out his work with
the Newsboys ("Take Me To Your Leader" from 1996
and "Thrive" from 2002 are good starting places.) While
not in my opinion near as good as Steve's solo work,
his mission of evangelism through intellectual thinking
and goofy humor still is very apparent, even from the
co-author's standpoint and producer's chair. As of this
writing, Steve has recently performed at a couple of Christian
festivals and it is rumored that he is working on another
solo album of sorts. We can only hope to hear more from
this legendary brilliant artist!

onfritz.com is a great site for general info about Taylor, and also has some downloadable music videos (Steve in drag for the Lifeboat one was kind of disturbing). What a great artist! He's so inspiring and funny...
