Everytime I listen to Sopor Aeternus (And The Ensemble Of Shadows) it's an incredible addictive experience that stirs deep emotions within me... He has recorded and reinterperted poems by Edar Allan Poe, all done flawlessly--cept *maybe* for "Eldorado" -- But "The Sleeper" and both versions of "Alone" are amazing... but one of his most amazing recordings (in my opinion) are "Only The Dead In The Mist", "There Was A Country By The Sea", "Profane Finality", "Abschied" and ofcourse my favorite "The Sleeper"....any other Sopor Aeternus fans wanna correspond? Sopor Aeternus is a wonderful musical project that puts you in a magickal feeling, it is so deep in emotions, Sopor is about pure feelings and it drives you into this mood and makes you feel the sadness and the happiness at both times...

out of the hundreds of bands and artists i have been exposed to over the last 10 - 15 0dd years none has come anywhere close to having the impact on my psyche as sopor aeternus. songs from the inverted womb may as well have been written "for" me and everytime i listen to it i find myself unable to speak. he and they speak volumes where other "goth", dark folk, neo-classical bands fail miserably. the ineffable sadness and horror at ones condition expressed thru their music has carried me thru many a night unscathed. really i havent the faintest idea why im writing this here...perhaps just to sing the praises of a musical entity that is more than a "band". sopor aeternus is a living, breathing, shrieking, whispering, endlessly dying but still somehow fraught with life and light organism and in my opinion there is no greater compliment that can be paid to an artist or their work than simply...

everytime i listen to sopor aeternus, i get chills down my back...not bad chills, mind you...but chills that are brought on by the tones of sadness and hurt that Anna-Varney evokes so well. at the same time i am also moved when i hear a faintly optimistic tone in the music...either way, it moves me. Sopor Aeternus is by far the most genuine "band" i have ever come across in my short span on this earth so far.

Metropolis-Records.com sells all Sopor Aeternus stuff. I just bought their new album (The Vampire Sucking at his Own Vein) from them. It was fifty dollars, but hey, there are only 1,999 of them in the world and it is beautiful.
