A new world is coming when everybody listen to Sigur Ros.

something about my impressions after their Berlin concert, 20 February 2003:

Artililistry’ of the Highest Gradation of Emotions

I’m not going to describe too many technical details, the setlist is available in the net I guess, etc., I think the most essential element of the concert were our aesthetic feelings which united in us, everyone felt similarly. We felt better creatures.

Before the concert, a part of our Shortcut Travel team left in the coach, which stood next to the orange Sigur Rós’s coach, and thus they could talk to Jónsi and be given his signatures with a lovely sun. Natalia, who talked with Jónsi, reported me that he apologised her several times that Sigur Rós didn’t visit Poland, and he was astonished, moved and embarrassed that we arrived at his concert from so far away (it is very nice and moving in fact too). Then Ania and Raf had an interview with the band, I’ll translate it for you here if you want me to.

Hmmm, the hall of Arena was drastically ugly and massively vulgar. The whole surroundings were also terribly boorish. But the band created an improbable metamorphosis of the scene. Just before the concert Sigur Rós’s artistic videos were played, then a German band played their music, and then the three violinists and THEY appeared...... silent, majestic and modest...

The beginning initiated my first biggest dose of tears. The second wave followed when Jónsi with a mixed up a bit English speech dedicated the next songs to those who came to Berlin last year in vain. The flickering of candles enlightened the sea of emotions, from these the most delicate blows of joy to pleasure, revolt and shout !!!!

No doubts to was the most beautiful concert in the world! Now I do know why the case of Agaetis byrjun is decorated with a figure of an embryo angel, maybe the reason is different, but I did feel at the gig as in mother’s womb. Jónsi’s filled up with longing voice hugged me the most tender one could imagine ... the music was a lily-virgin longing, a twin sister to what I felt, the longing for the purest beauty uncovering some mild curtains of higher feelings. Jónsi must be an uncommonly sensitive man as he emitted so piercingly/movingly shaped variations of sounds filled up with love brimful, with the most sincere love. I cried. In my heart I cuddled the flow of so strong dose of love, peace and goodness, which also touched the people standing and sitting near me when I was in front of the scene. We looked at each other with love and smile, we were strangers to one another but assumed so positive an attitude... we were soothed in the blissfulness of the atmosphere created by Sigur Rós. I wanted to hug someone tightly to my heart and cry with him/her, my soul wept....

Sigur Rós made a great impression on me when about two yrs ago I listened to Agaetis byrjun (thnx to Cezary who sent me the album, thank You!), then there were the subsequent albums, Eps and concerts. I knew from Vo:n and other fans from this forum that the concerts of this band are fabulous but when I could experience such a concert for my own some improbable loads of peace, comfort and love freed from my existence. The concert still exists in my consciousness, in every cellar of my body. I was fully soaked up with the charm of artistry. I don’t think if any band could easily cross the barrier Sigur Rós placed. Since the band is only four boys and three girls, drums, guitars, keyboards, guitarviolin and voice, accuracy, steadiness, breaking of the ice – breaking of hatred and its extirpation into truth and sincerity, .... crudeness of Icelandic nature (a longing for sun, warmth, heaviness of ice, fragility of snow, sharpness of forms, howling of wolves, twittering of birds, neutrality, freshness, transparency and unconventionality...) They wouldn’t achieve all these but not for the longing for the better world and feeings they are filled up with, the ones they give to their audience. To create art, to make a work of art, one needs fatigue, toil, passion, pain, complaints, grief, sorrow, fear, horror and pity... and that’s the answer.

they are a good band but i think he is a little pretty boy. they don't even
come close to being as good as godspeed though. concerning music and
politics, and personality, they are just inferior to godspeed. their music isn't as
moving, passionate, or intense. they have nothing to say seeing as how
the lyrics don't mean anything. furthermore i think they are assholes. their ticket
prices are way to high, and they have no buisness talking shit about godspeed.
plus they rip off their musical styles. i think they are art fags.

but they are a good band.

I'm not sure about the "no pollution" bit but that's ok. I saw them live and it was unique.Damn it! Why do Mogwai hate them? They say they sound like the Lord Of The Rings soundtrack which I find funny

>>By thom   (Sunday, 29 Aug 2004 01:13)

Hallo!!!!! Sigur Ros is one of my fav bands.. so dreamy reflective and relaxing!
It's helped me quite much to get out of my depressions, i admire this band a lot and, hope some day i can see them in live! damnnn, why am i too far from where they tour?

>>By Belle of the Ball   (Monday, 10 Jan 2005 21:45)

When I discovered them almost 6 years ago I fell in love immediatly and with every record sonce then they have been able to mesmerize me. This is one of those bands that journalist have to invent a term for, they stand (almost) alone in their genre and keep surprising you.
When you listen to them you believe you have travelled to a place you have never been before and are surrounded by nothing else but beauty and beauty. Their music seems to come from a deep cave and almost is a natural phenomanon, not man-made.
With this new record (Takk...) they have done it again, and I am floating and loving it. This is music, this is the dream..............

>>By Campking   (Thursday, 22 Sep 2005 21:36)

What language are they singing in??? they're crazy good... very radiohead... but i can't make out 2 words...

>>By nologo (Wednesday, 26 Feb 2003 01:29)

It is their own made up language.......

>>By Campking   (Thursday, 22 Sep 2005 21:37)

im a fan of music that actually has some kind of positive effect......
their music is sort of beyond words i guess

>>By evening_guy   (Sunday, 25 Sep 2005 09:07)

Like many other bands, I only know of Sigur Ros through www.amazon.com's free, legal downloads. I forget what the two songs are (can't pronounce them anyway), but its quite beautiful.

For some reason I subconsciously assumed this band was a hard rock/metal band. Maybe the name. I thought the same about Primal Scream.

>>By sp1kee   (Wednesday, 28 Sep 2005 15:20)

I was told they've made up the words and language they sing...anyone heard similar?

>>By MChiara   (Tuesday, 17 Jan 2006 08:59)

It is true.... But maybe you could have read the previous reactions and you would have already know this is so.......

>>By Campking   (Friday, 20 Jan 2006 18:55)
