Discussion: Rotary Connection

I remember back in the 70's talking with a fellow musician
when out of nowhere he says, 'I just heard that CHARLES STEPNEY has died. Well, I guess that's the end of Earth Wind & Fire.' I had seen the name around but I hadn't realized what kind of musical impact this man had. His harmonic sense and rhythmic sense [or pacing] in his musical approach really speak out to me. I can usually tell what tunes he had a hand in writing or arranging in the EW&F days. I was delighted to find some old articles and interviews of this man on the internet and then some cats from Chicago turned me on to Rotary Connection. This blew my mind for now I can see more of Charles Stepney's vision. I'm glad this part of him is still being remembered

I agree with you on that one, man. His work with The Dells, Ramsey Lewis, and others during his years at Chess were phenomenal.
