Paul Weller has to be one of the luckiest so-&-sos in British music. The reason he'll never be a truly great talent is that when he rose to fame, competition around him was sadly insufficient. He was just the 'best' of a very poor lot, & he took advantage.

Musically though, of his generation I think it's Paul Weller who takes the proverbial biscuit when it comes to 'deliberate borrowing' & ripping-off. He'll steal from anyone halfway-decent in pop & rock, including George Harrison, Arthur Lee, & Jeff Lynne, to mention but a few.

More over-rated than Pete Doherty? Paul should start dating models too!!!

I'd bracket Weller, Morrissey, & Robert Smith among the luckiest men in British pop music of recent times. They're expert in making minor talent stretch a long way, i'll give 'em that.

Ok Anti-yeb, I'm certainly with you on the latter two!

I was going to start joining in on some music discussions and then I read your comments nonyeb. I think I'll stick to talking about music with my friends, they are not as sour as you are. Remember, only a tiny amount of things in this world can be truly original, much great art is derivative in some way, but it doesn't prevent it from being great. I suppose you'll be telling us next that you are a Leo Sayer man. No, wait a minute .. you're obviously way too cool for that. So if the Jam and the Smiths are not talented or original enough for you, who the fuck excatly is?
