Discussion: Paul Desmond

Although I love the sounds of Parker, Getz and Mulligan.
Paul Desmond is my favorite on the saxaphone.

Truelly - without a doubt - the most beautiful sax player of 20th century jazz - perhaps of all time.

Desmond has a lyrical but yet deep stile. His sound is very interesting because sometimes less is best. I have the impression that he found the notes others still looking for. The semitono stile is quite out of fashion, but still very impressive. The intersting is the contrast between Desmond`s life style (his loneliness qand quietudness) and his lyrical sound. He made himself understandable through his sound.

I mostly know him (becoz I am old) becoz my father had a great LP by Dave Brubeck called "Time Out". Although I went on thru Folk, Pop, Blues, Rock, Underground, Progressive, Punk, New Wave, World, & Country, I still love the free sounds that those guys made. Lately I have been impressed by Gerry Mulligan.
