Our Lady Peace

What to say about Our Lady Peace? First of all, that its great that they never make the same album twice. The closest two were Naveed and Clumsy, but Clumsy had a darker, less Pearl Jammy feel to it (OLP were one of those bands that were born just as grunge was dying and were smart enough to survive its death). Naveed was a great album, Clumsy was good, Happiness was amazing, and Spiritual Machines was the music of the gods. As for Gravity, well, it's not shit, like some say. But it certainly ranks #5 on my OLP album list. I think it starts off kickass and finishes awesome, but those are the two most interesting songs on the CD to listen to. In any case, this is Bob Rock's work, with a touch of Raine liking the idea of looking at himself in the mirror and feeling sexy. The important thing to remember is that Raine changes his style every two years (love that hair in the One Man Army video), so I don't believe that Mike Turner leaving the band will lead to a bunch of similarly crappy albums. Once they work with Arnold Lanni again, and find cool things to sing about, they'll be back on track. Steve is a great guitar player, and a great find. Mike was a great man, but he ditched the band he created when they were in the middle of recording an album. And I do like Raine - I sometimes mimic his on-stage spasticness when performing on-stage with my band. He inspired me to sing. Of course, Gord Downie (of the Hip) inspired me to write. Anyways, OLP is a great band, nothing they do now can ever take away from their past accomplishments, and as for the hypocrite stuff and bickering: Who gives a damn people? It's rock and roll.

Hi everyone,

I want to speak out in Lizzy's defence. I have been with OLP since clumsy primiered and I have seen them live during 4 different tours. That being said, I have to admit that as of late I am disillusioned with them. The change from spiritual machines to gravity was a U-turn in the wrong direction hands down. Caring about MTV ratings and album sales more that artisitc creativity is total crap. And thats what it is, don't kid yourself. You hear a current song by OLP on the radio (or worse yet watch Somewhere out there on MTV) and it could be any band. They have lost their uniqueness to SELL OUT. Sure there are lots of sell outs in this business, but it's because I respected them so much that I am so hurt by this. Our Lady Peace was the band that was just so different...just so creative. Compare the Video "In Repair" to their current stuff.....its mind boggling. I think this is partly due to Mike leaving, but still....oye vay. I am looking forward to the band moving to a cave for 2 years and then returning to our materialistic society of the dollar with something fresh and inspiring. Short of that, I'm outtie.

uhhh.. i dont know much about OLP but...
hell, I LOVE THEIR SONG "SOMEWHERE OUT THERE"!!!!!!!!
it makes me really fall in love...like i feel the guy's singing out to me!

After reading all of your own opinions there's nothing much different I can say other then they are an excellent band, one that has stuck with me through elementary, and highschool and hopefully for years to come. Raine's lyrics have inspired my own writing and don't bash the girls that say he's hot. He is a very sexy man and I'm sorry if your upset that all these women want him and your stuck at home masturbating infront of your computer. I would also like to say that the band would not be complete without the talents of Jeremey, Duncan and Steve. Mike was also a great asset but we won't discuss that right now. Thanks
That's all

My God, they're AWFUL!
How can anyone like their new sound? They totally destroyed themselves as a band!
Way back in the day when Clumsy and Naveed were out, THAT was when they made good music! That music back then was about a feeling of just wanting to rock out and have a good time, which is what I did when I listened to it. Now all Raine seems to do is bitch about how life sucks. Raine, I missed when you were all hardcore and strong instead of the complete wuss you've become. You've turned from hardcore cool best kind rock to emo wuss rock. AND YOU KICKED MIKE OUT? WHAT THE HELL? Our Lady Peace committed musical suicide. They have been claimed by emo losers and we, the true fans, will never have them back.

I miss the REAL Our Lady Peace. I'll take "Supersatellite" over that song "innocent" any day. I want to shoot myself, because living in a world where people like that song is absolutely unbearable.

We wait for the return of the REAL Raine Maida when this punk who's taken over his mind and body disappears. I'm convinced that that's what happened to him.

HEll yeah, I'm with Greenism! They're total sell-outs!
They wanted to look cool and sell albums to americans so they sold out completely. I don't know what the Hell Arnold Lanni did with them, but he ruined them! They've SO, like Greenism said, lost their uniqueness and originality.

IF YOU'RE LISTENING RAINE, COME BACK TO YOUR SENSES AND STOP BEING A WUSS! I DIDN'T ENTIRELY MIND HAPPINESS (although I was taken aback) AND I WAS WILLING TO STRETCH IT FOR SPIRITUAL MACHINES (which, as a fan who clung on to useless hope, I though "It's not so bad") BUT I WILL NOT, REPEAT, NOT STAND FOR "GRAVITY." IT'S WHAT THE SCOTS WOULD CALL "SHITE."

That being said, I will never buy another album. I own them all, minus gravity, and I can sing all the lyrics to all the songs. But I will not be dragged along while they abuse my musical history with them.

Fucking sellouts

>>By jhonny B   (Tuesday, 3 Jun 2003 04:49)

Our Lady Peace is a fag band and all of you people on this board are homo's. Go kill yourselves.

>>By General Tso   (Thursday, 26 Jun 2003 04:42)

I think it's crap that you say that Our Lady Peace sold out just to get americans to listen to them, when more people from the u.s. listened to them than you know. I'm from the u.s. and i listened to them since i was 10, when clumsy came out. The reason i knew about them was because Clumsy was on MTV, so if you want to go around saying that's the reason, you're stupid! And if you even fucking read anything you would know that mike wasn't kicked out, he quit. At least if you're going to give your opinion, make yourself sound smart and not idiotic.

General Tso, you'd know a lot about being a homo, wouldn't you?

r lady peace sux!!!!!!!!! there song innocent is the gayest song ive eva heard even worse than nsync & BSB!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would rather listen 2 sum1 taking a crap then listening 2 1 of RLPs songs! the radio plays their songs 50 cugillion bazillion times a day & every1 is sick of it! face it ppl OLP sux!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all of u who also h8 them r kool!!!!!!!!!!!!!

>>By aNoMyNoUs   (Tuesday, 1 Jul 2003 01:11)

It's pretty bad that you have to be anonymous to give your opinion. You probably listen to them every night before you go to bed. If you don't like OLP, listen to someone you do like, like nsync aNoMyNoUs. And learn to fucking spell.

>>By ali   (Tuesday, 1 Jul 2003 02:59)

I think that too many people in this forum like our lady peace for the apperence of the singer: Raine Maida...Maybe they don't even appreciate his music...Ok girls I agree with you Raine is a good looking guy but come on he's not gonna marry you! Come down! If Raine was ugly, would you like our lady peace??? Think...seriously! Appreciate their music or don't listen to them just because "oh my god Raine is so cute!!!" !

Anyways Our lady peace is one good canadian band (as a canadian, i'm proud to be well represented by them..a rare good canadian band...). I've been following them since "Naveed" and they are getting better ans better. Sure Gravity is another side of our lady peace : a little less alternative,a little more rock. New guitar player Steve Mazur is totally incredible!!! As a guitar palyer I know he's amazing!!

>>By C-h-r-i   (Tuesday, 1 Jul 2003 04:31)

our lady peace is one of the best groups around..theyre music is soooooooooo wow!!!
raine is soooooo hott...and has an amzing voice. and our lady peace will always kick ass..hope they win for the music awards!!( i voted for them like a million times)
whoever has anything bad to say about them has major problems...who doesnt like them??? ...theyre sooo amazing.
RAINE= gorgeous for life...

How does the people bashing OLP come across this site, is what i wonder. Is it that you look for a site so you can waste your time by telling everyone that you hate them, when they couldn't give a shit. Or is it because you spend all day looking up stuff about them. It's stupid if you think that every fucking person that writes on here cares that you think they suck.

>>By ali   (Thursday, 3 Jul 2003 06:33)

Obviously I'm the only one who thinks it, but Gravity isn't bad, just not as good as the rest

>>By This Guy Here   (Wednesday, 9 Jul 2003 18:11)

OLP is, without a doubt, my favourite band. I like all of their albums, including Gravity. While I like the depth of their previous albums more, I think Gravity has a good sound, and I would love to hear an album with Gravity's sound and Happiness' depth (probably my two favourite OLP albums). As for them "selling out" with Gravity, well, I really don't care whether they did or not. I don't pretend to be able to recognize musical integrity anyway; I choose my bands based solely on what I enjoy listening to. And hey, we're all hypocrites about one thing or another.

>>By Mandera   (Tuesday, 15 Jul 2003 04:20)

k half of u people are just stupid little girls w/ crushes on Raine can't u just apreciate
the band 4 there music.i'm more into heavy rock so i have to say that Gravity wasn't there best album i really liked clumsy. There other album's were on the softer side but still amazing,i'm really into the lyric's Raine writes..where does he get that material.i've been into them forever and have the right to say that u can't bash there music over one song u have to listen to more of there stuff otherwise just keep ur ignorant ideas to urself.i have to admit that there song innocent was a bit weak and don't really like it myself but the music is still good and if u know anything about music u could understand that.
yet i am a girl and can admit that Raine is sexy but if ur looking for that then obsess over Justin Timberlake{what a loser}.oh and Lizzy take some Ridilin for God sakes

>>By moe   (Saturday, 19 Jul 2003 07:08)

ok, first of all i want to say that all you freakin teenyboppers who obsesses about raine's looks make me sick. you call your self a olp fan, but really you just have a crush on raine! yes, i gotta say, he is a good looking guy,BUT that gives you no right to say your a fan - you love OLP cos raine has a pretty face! REAL OLP FANS love olp and raine for who they/he is not for what they look like! and yes, gravity is a different cd, but why do you ppl bitch about it? if olp made the same sounding cd over and over and over you would be here bitching about how boring their music is! so please, for the love of God stop wining about it!
oh yeah. Lizzy is it?. i say this in the nices way.....SHUT UP!
ok, thank you.

Well first of all, I like Our Lady Peace. I don't really know there names or what they look like that much so I don't like them just because of there looks. The first time I heard one of there songs was when I was at a sleepover party at this girls house for her birthday. We were sleeping in her room upstairs so the radio was on. It was then when I heard a song that gave me this weird feeling..it was a goos feeling but something about the song just got to me. When I was coming home in a car with my Dad and Brother the same song came on the radio and I recognized it. I asked my brother what song it was....and the song was Life. Then my brother got the CD and I was listening to other tracks on the CD and I liked them. I liked the song.. well I dont know whats its called but it goes " your falling back to me, in style that i can't see ya, I know ur out there somewhere out there!" and the song innocent and other songs. Well I think they are very cool and there songs mean something,
Chao!

>>By Jane   (Monday, 21 Jul 2003 17:15)

no jane no! its "your falling back to me, the STAR that i can see ya" that song is called SOMEWHERE OUT THERE, it's form gravity,5th CD,3ed track! hehe

>>By SUPER 7   (Monday, 21 Jul 2003 21:28)

Thanks for correcting me:) Anyways I like the song automatic flowers too. yay!

>>By Jane   (Friday, 25 Jul 2003 19:13)

gravity rocks...why r people dissing it? people on this discussion have said that they have committed 'musical suicide' but its not true. if you a true fan you would still enjoy their music.

>>By vanille   (Tuesday, 9 Sep 2003 10:53)

Well first of all I feel I must plead with all of you to stop misusing grammar. Next, OLP, brilliant band especially Naveed and Clumsy. Gravity not so much but hey like everyone says they have never repeated an album (just like the Smashing Pumpkins another great band) so we know that this will be the last crappy pop album, although all for you is a pretty good song. I went and saw OLP in Prince George (where I lost my voice and nearly went deaf for two days) and they were awesome. For God's sake, in that cheesy Naveed/Life medley on the Live album, there was a huge five minute solo with the highest most powerful pinch harmonic I have ever seen (yes, even better than the one in cemetary gates) so based on the concert I have to say that Our Lady Peace rules and all you people who pass judgement on them because of Gravity, are just plain hosers.

hello, i too am a huge fan of OLP. This post is about a certain
song called 4am. This song has very special meaning to myself.
Back in 1998 on september 19, I was a truck driver at the time,
i stopped in this city about 8 hours from my home city of winnipeg (canada)
to have a sleep, it was late i had been driving all day, just wanted
to get some rest. Around midnight i got a phone call from my brother,
he didn't say anything except dad has been in a accident you better
come home quick. So i call a cab to take me to the airport , well i get there
and the airport is closed (Saskatoon). so i go back to my truck i start driving.
By now it is 2am, i had a feeling my dad was dead or dying so i put the
pedal to the metal. that drive ussually takes 8 hours, i did it in 5 hours at
90 MPH i get to the hospital and find out my dad is on life support. the family
was waiting for me to say goodbye before they disconected the machine.
my dad just bought this office complex for his trucking company he built up.
there is a large staircase the connects the first and second stories.
He tripped on a piece of moulding for the corners of the step, landed
on his head and died (braindead). my brother was there and seen the whole thing happen Sept 19 is also my brothers birthday. the point of the story is that all i remember about that night driving home and listening to 4am over and over. then later that realized how appropriate the song is. the line ( and if i dont make it , know that i loved you all along) is true. i never got along with my dad because we worked together. and i would always think
later on in life we will be friends and hangout.

thanks for letting me tell my story
maybe it can help other people
