Discussion: Mary Chapin Carpenter

I like the way she feels and expresses her lonliness. Not many artists can do it as well as she can. "10,000 Miles" is a very dramatic, sad and wonderful song. I love the sax at the end.I understand what she feels. Her songs are very realistic and down to earth. I love the line "and the tangled sheet and the twisted spread fall onto the floor" from "When She's Gone". And the kitchen table that finds the characters silent. She writes about things that are not usually heard in music today. I love the feeling I get when I hear "I Am a Town". It makes you realize that the town she is singing of is actually a live character. "Come on Come on" reminds me of summer when I hear it. I love the lines "it's the need you never get used to...". There's the lonliness again. Her music is also full of anger and sometimes bitterness, which I love. Two songs that come to mind are "Outside Looking In" and "You Win Again". There are too many of her songs that are special to me.
"Where are the windows, where are the doors, I haven't the key to your heart anymore" Those words are simple, yet very deep and meaningful.
