Marvin Gaye

Forum

Back in 1974, I was a sixteen year old high school student. Marvin Gaye was one of the popular musician that our community in Soweto listened to. On this particular Saturday afternoon, spending time studying at school, I could hear the strains of Lets Get It On in the background. It was haunting stuff, it made me yearn for the girl that had just become a part of my teenage years and yet I loved her so. There was nothing wrong with me loving her, and Marvin confirmed that afternoon that she was the one.

I stopped studying as the song got to me, flooding my heart with loneliness and making me miss her more.

Twenty years down the line, married to someone else and not the high school sweetheart, Marvin' s music has outlived that high school emotional upheaval, I love his music, whatever opportunity I have, I read about this absorbingly incredible and immensely talented human being.

The world was truly blessed to have someone like him, and his is a legacy that will find its way into eternity.

The greatest music artist of all. Why?? Just listen to him and the Heart and Soul he puts into every note. In one word, "LIFE". His songs are about life!!!

Marvin is the greatest singer ever. Marvin Gaye put his heart and soul in to every lyric and verse. Marvin Gaye songs were and still revelant to everyday life. I refer Marvin music as " life music". He had a song for each experience that we as human beings go through. For example in " What's Going On, a human can relate to oppression and injustice. On his "Hear My Dear", album you can relate to the issues of being married.
Marvin had a incredible range , on some songs Marvin belts out that "old school soul of the 60's , in which he sounds similiar to Sam Cooke, Then Marvin will elate you with his piercing falsetto in" Got to Give Up".The next voice in "Keep You Satisfied is intertwined with his natural tenor and his falsetto range. Marvin also breaks you off as crooner and silky, silky, soul singer "When Did You Stop Loving Me, and When Did Stop Loving You". The man was incredible , awesome, spirtual, romantic, and a social poet . There will never be another Marvin Pentz Gaye Jr.

Marvin is the greatest singer, performer of all time. I never knew what passion was until I heard him sing. His voice drips sexuality and his lyrics are clever and poignant. Despite his fear of dancing, I love to see him move on Hitch hike! I am convinced that I was born too late!

My friend's make fun of me because I listen to alot of old music. (I ignore them because some of the stuff they listen to is really outthere) One day I was at my house with one of my friend's and I put on my mom's Marvin gaye record (she made me like him),my friend laughed a little but when we sat down and listened to it she shut up and didn't say anything and she never makes fun of me for listening to old music in fact she's starting to get into the Temptations herself!

Marvin is the greatest singer. Not because he had the best vocals in the world it was just his style was smooth and had a real ear for music sort like me. I personally did'nt care for the old school much until I became grown and everything made sense his music was the greatest my favorite is the one called distant lover that is my shit. The industry today use alot of old school in there songs so for those saying that they don't like old school that's a lie cause you listen to it everyday the only thing is it is a remix that's all.

In May 2003, Marvin's music sounds better today that when I was in college in the 70's. That's because I truely listen and understand the words of love that this man was singing about. I have played many of his songs three times consecutively just to get the many nuiances in the music. From "What's Going on", to "Let's Get It On", to "I Want You" albums( Album - a term foreign to many young people today), the music inspires hope and love. Love can be said in many different ways and nobody in the history of music can sing it better than Marvin Gaye.

Yay for Marvin Gaye!

Marvin is the definition of a true artist. He was true about it all, whether it was his drug problems or his marital problems. He said in a song that if the picture he paints makes him a sinner or a saint, that he would not try to deny it. That's real. His voice is haunting. His style is smooth. His legacy is everlasting. I have every album and record that has been released on Marvin. It's taken me a while but I love Marvin Gaye.

I loved Marvin Gaye's songs since I was a kid. His music touches me deeply because he pours his heart and soul into it. He is one of my favorite musicians. My favorite Marvin Gaye's song is "I Heard it through the Grapevine".The arrangement coupled with Marvin Gaye's crooning is beautiful. He was such a soulful musician with an intense vocal versatility. Marvin Gaye was so unique, ahead of his own time. No musician will ever be like him. Though he's gone, I feel he is very much alive be cause his music coninues to accrue appreciation.
