Los Machucambos

Forum

The old tunes of the Machucambos are fantastic, folkloric. It brings memories of the Mexican "trios" and the golden years of music with guitars and maracas.

Yes! I love the old songs. The new sound isn't very good at all. does anyone know what album cielito lindo is on? if you do, please email me at ultrayellow@hotmail.com   (Thursday, 5 Dec 2002 00:34)

I think that thet might very well be the best Latin American group that ever existed. It's a shame that they are so popular all around the world and almost no one here in the USA ever heard of them. I would like to contact them for the possibility of having them play at our theatre in Schaumburg, Ilinois, USA some time. Does anyone know how I can make contact.

I first heard Los Machucambos when I was 10 years old (I am now 42). The album was "Percussive Latin Trio". It is an excellent album, and I still listen to it today. Also, the album's female vocalist was Julia Cortes. The fact is I would like to find other albums similar to this one, and even better if Julia Cortes was the vocalist. Sal Yaz (above) said it best...The old tunes of Machucambos are fantastic and folkloric.

I recently purchased "Muy Sentimental" . I didn't like it at all. Is anyone familiar with "Percussive Latin Trio" , and can anyone reccomend a good similar Machucambos album?

I have a copy of "Percussive Latin Trio". It was my fathers. I was around fifteen when I first heard it. I was madly in love with Julia Cortes even though I had no idea what she looked like. It was just her voice, especially on Pepito. I am now 46 and still am in love!
It would be great if that album was on cd.

I've been listening to this woderfull group for 30 years in their various incarnacions, to me the essential elements were always the two fellas with their sharply contrasting voices and masterfull guitar playing, this I think, is what has given them their unique and enigmatic sound. I wish there was more information available about them, in fact, I often wonder if they still tour.

Reviewer: Ricardo MArin from COSTA RICA

Concerts Inedits
I was amazed when I saw this CD with the original trio "Los MAchucambos". The lady, Julia Cortès from my country, COSTA RICA did her own. The recent cd'S come from other group, and they loose the flavour. Hope we can have soon all those wonderful albums from London records!!!!!!!!

I still have some old PHASE 4 records of this wonderful group " Los Machucambos ". Do they have a DVD or VCD record ? Do they still perform as a group ? How can I get Copies of their CD ?

They are part of my collection of records of my most admired musical performers.

I hope they are still in good health. Most specially " Julia Cortes " who I admire most.

Recently heard a version of "Perfidia" on the radio and was blown away by the female vocalist's voice. Called the radio station to get more info and was told the group was Los Machucambos and the album was Percussive Latin Trio on the London label. If anyone out there has this album and is capable of getting it onto a CD please contact me!!

I wish I knew what happen to Julia Cortes. What is she doing now? Did she do anymore records after leaving Los Machucambos? Why did she Leave Los Machucambos?

Also if there is a video or DVD of the band with Julia Cortes, I would love to get a copy of that.

And, while I am fantasizing wouldn't be great if the two men in the trio answered some of these questions by posting right here on gnoosic?

Direct responses to Sticsmateo@Yahoo.com

Thanks,

Robert

Los Machucambos reunited with Julia Cortez last year. They recorded a new CD together last year. They will perform a concert in San Jose, Costa Rica on May 14, 2004. They may also perform in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico sometime during 2004. They live in Paris. I correspond via e-mail with Rafael Gayoso (one of the two men in the group). I will give him this web site address and ask him if he wants to post any other news.
