I, myself, do not like to limit music by slapping labels on it, but……..I guess you could classify them as doom metal? I think that that is the best term used to describe their unique sound. I discovered them when “The Discouraged Ones” was released. I acquired the single “Dead House” on a compilation album. After listening to that song about a dozen times, I had to have the cd. Katatonia’s music plays like the soundtrack to a life of a homeless wonderer, lost in a post apocalyptic wasteland. Beautiful and dark, a perfect blend. The vocals are so haunting, like someone who has completely given in to despair.
