Discussion: Joe Satriani

Pages: 1 2
I've been playing guitar for about 2 years.... I was always looking for instrumental music, plus I love lead guitar..... Someone mentioned Satriani, I downloaded a few songs........ now I have atleast 40 songs of his, and a new musicla direction..I think Satch has topped any guitarist I have yet heard, past or present. I just got "Summer Song" down on my guitar, but I've got MANY MANY more songs of his to learn haha.... God has blessed him with amazing abilities, most definitely

I started guitar without any lessons. I bought my first satch VCD G3, and Flying in a Blue Dream blew me away. To realise so beautiful could be played. I realised I needed no teacher. All I needed was to listen. I saw guitar in a whole new perspective. It was no longer strings ringing but fingers dancing on the strings like a beautifully choreographed dance. Thank you Joe.

I do not know what a fool I have been. Joe redefines a whole new concept. The reason I played guitar is I am envious of a 6th grader who can complete "Stairway To Heaven" at no mistake. With that I started playing Metallica riffs, then sooner listened to Dream Theater, Slayer...mostly speed metal.

No matter how fast, speed w/o control and emotion is useless. It became so boring.

And then I forced to play using Love...literally I listened to Crush Of Love, Love Thing, Raspberry Jam, Chords Of Life and my favorite ALL of Joe's songs were completely different stories.

Listening to Time (as if you are frozen in time and the universe catches up with you)
Listening to Cool 9 (groovy sound especially that finger rake Joe did was totally splendin and awesome a lot of whammy with perfect execution)

The reverse feedback only he can produce, the guitat is more than wailing as if Joe is played by the guitar. Mostly the guitar and the guitarist becomes one (Petrucci and his guitar) mostly the use of effects with strong technique creates an ambience (Vai and his guitar) but Joe's playing is so cool and very powerful. He is the melody himself like guitar plays him.

He is really a god no doubt about it.

joe satriani is the most talented guitarist ive ever known..sure all those jimi hendrix and jimmy page (i love them) were influential ..BUT.....they seriously cant even think of reaching the level of knowledge Joe has.
he is the BEST guitarist of this century.
im your biggest Fan Joe!

Stupid Grammy offcials just dont get it....joe has been nominated 10000 times but hasnt won any...that is just stupid....HE DESERVES every single of them, other nominies?..i dont even know who the hell they are..lol
his "recognition" doesnt matter....what matters is what fans think about him...not some high power grammy/oscar officials..
joe remember...WE(people) think you are the best...than any guitarist ever
keep rockin!

Love ya Satch.

Somehow though, I was a bit disappointed with is album "Strange Beautiful Music". Does anyone feel the same? I feel he's trying to be more commercial, turning up the distortion and trying to sound more like popular rock or metal bands. Its a bit of a shame really. I know Satch can do better.

If anyone is interested, you can read my personal opinion on why I prefer Steve Vai, even if Satch is possibly technically better (i don't play an instrument, so its difficult for me to really tell) I just listen and Vai speaks thru his guitar more emotively for me, even though its less melodic than Satch. Check out what I have to say on the Vai discussion forum:

joe...when are u comming to Moncton new-brunswick canada???

Joe is a genius but i do agree with savvy stevie bout vai being just that bit beta. He is certaintly technically in advance of Joe, an melodically more experimental. On a lighter note, im lookin forward to seein g3 with Robert Fripp, should be AWESOME!

oooooooooooooooo SATRIANI IS SUCH AN AMAZING GUITARIST. Wow. He's a god practically. Better then Vai in my opinion. He's just... amazing. I cant get enough of it

I'm not a huge fan of instrumental rock music, but if i had to listen to something, it would definately be Satriani. Much better than the soulless over-indulgance of other guitarists *cough*yngwie*cough*
