Discussion: Jim O'Rourke

My friend told me I should listen to Jim O'Rourke, because he is a genius. I borrowed a cd and thought it was kinda neat. A year later, I had Gastr Del Sol's "Season's Reverse" permanently stuck in my head for a while, so then I heard (and listened intently to) "Insignificance", over, and over, and over, and then I found his discography online, and now I am positive he is a genius.

He's alright, but a genious? Come on!

He is truly a genius. The usage of that word is not at all extreme in his case. Even if you are not a fan of his individual recordings, his production of other bands is amazing. I can't stop listening to Eureka, though. The instrumentation on that record is insane. All right, I need help, but I love the use of the steel drum. It works so well. And Loose Fur? Underrated. It's wonderful.

I believe he doesn't like it to be considered a genius. Remember reading that once somewhere in an interview. But yeah, he does very nice things.
