Hot Snakes are a fantastic take on San Diego punk rock by some of the most important people in the scene. Lead by dynamic duo John "Speed" Reis and Rick Froberg, the kingpins behind legendary wall-of-feedback pioneers Drive Like Jehu, the Hot Snakes play dark, driving songs that build and build with tension pounding out of every note. Their first record, Automatic Midnight, was notable for the lack of a bass guitar, with low-end duties instead handled by a synthesizer and some brilliant drumming by Jason Kournakiss to create a rythm section that turns the old punk rock status quo on it's ear. The newer release, Suicide Invoice, is a more fully realized version of the band, which now includes Gar Wood playing the four string, with haunting songworks that will bury into your head and make you crazy in the best of ways.
