I just went to their concert thinking they'd be good live... And I was so wrong I suprised myself. I mean, are you sure Billie Joe doesn't lip sync? He's absolutely terrible live... I still love their first couple c.d's though.

The old greenday was okay, but the new greenday is disappointing. They've sold theirselves and now they are crap like good charlotte and avril lavigne.

>>By Suta   (Monday, 23 May 2005 23:08)

i agree with suta

>>By An Evil Girl   (Monday, 30 May 2005 00:55)

yea me too. songs like boulevard of broken dreams and holiday may be okay to listen. but they are very easy made, nothing special... they've just gut so commercial

>>By alibabi   (Monday, 18 Jul 2005 00:15)

ok i totally respect evry1 has ther own opinions about greenday but it reaaly pisses me off wen pple havent even heard them and call them shit!also when they hav a go at ther new music; personally i love all their music new and old b/c i appreciate both styles, the newer stuff may b more commercial but didnt you no that they were tryin something different, you gota understand that. some body on here sed avril lavigne kicks billie's ass, um i hate to tell u luv but she dnt, i do like her but have to say her music is so different.also she is not really punk more pop/punk which means more on the pop side.you obviously dont understand the depths of greenday, i think they can honestly be classed as rock now, as they wer punk at the start b/c they invented a whole new meaning for the word 'punk'. they may be gettin older but their music is maturing and as i sed b4 shud be appreciated - its not going to be exactly the same or youd criticise it for that!
i fuckin love greenday and it annoys me wen bad things are sed about them but you all hav opinions so i cant change that newayz i hope pple can see from wot ive wriitten that that there is more to them than some of you think and i love them for that! greenday rule!!!!!!!i love them! x

>>By greenday186   (Friday, 19 Aug 2005 16:10)

o and by the way i do h8 it wen stupid kids (no offense to ne1) start liking greenday wen they dnt actually understand the music.tho, it cud be a bad thing if the music wasnt so commercial as then not as many pple who do appreciate it wud be doing so x

>>By greenday186   (Friday, 19 Aug 2005 16:15)

What do you see in Green Day then? To me, their music doesn't have a lot of substance and at least Avril Lavigne doesn't have a stupid voice

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Friday, 19 Aug 2005 18:25)

okay Green Day made punk rock music, does it really matter about the era that they are in. the new stuff is pretty much just their political veiws. all of their music rocks anyway!!!

>>By playfulhoneybee   (Saturday, 20 Aug 2005 03:18)

sk8a h8a u really dnt look like the person to like avril lavigne.billie's voice has character as does evry1s includin avril and i dont h8 her as u made it out to sound lol thats just my opinion which isnt the same as yours so shud we leave it as that?

>>By greenday186   (Saturday, 20 Aug 2005 23:26)

Nimrod is a pretty good album.

>>By Jane   (Sunday, 21 Aug 2005 07:05)

to anyone who was there or just would want it, the dvd of greenday at milton keynes will be out on the 15th of november!!!!!!!!!!!!!i cant wait - i was there, fuckin awesome!!!!!!!!!

>>By greenday186   (Sunday, 21 Aug 2005 17:16)

Okay, I've listened to probably every last one of their songs, and I have noticed a substantial difference from their older ones to their newer ones, being that their older ones are great, and their newer ones suck. I'm not saying this to create a huge heated argument, or because I'm for some reason prejudiced, but because there is a difference, and a very negative difference. Why do you automatically think people haven't heard them to dislike them? I went to their concert, I've obviously heard them, and I didn't like them. They aren't trying something different with their newer stuff, they're doing what the mainstream fans like, which is crap music. If you ask me, they're losing their touch. I don't think they are rock either... They're more like Pop, just like GC, SP or Avril. they've really gone downhill since Nimrod and Dookie.

To those who said that American Idiot is a sellout and not worthy of any notice, well you're wrong, American Idiot is the best album of this decade. To those of you who discard the band and say they suck.... well, you're not too far off the mark. Everything predating American Idiot is forgettable. They're are some great bands form the 90s, Nirvana, Oasis, Nine Inch Nails, The Foo Fighters, etc. But Green Day will soon lose their momentum after the American Idiot hype dies down. They'll an average band in terms of talent, they write catchy songs in the same vein over and over again, and they won't ever chart the same waters as the all-time greats.

>>By GetTheLedOut   (Wednesday, 14 Sep 2005 05:28)

You are kidding when you say American Idiot is the best album of this decade? Seriously? No way can you mean that... you like Led Zeppelin, an astonishingly good band and yet you think American Idiot is the best album since the turn of the millenium? I know you can't mean that...
"the new stuff is pretty much just their political veiws" Boulevard of Broken Dreams? Wake me Up (When September Ends)? Political??? How?? I don't have the album so I don't know the other songs apart from Holiday (yes, that's blindingly political), but I don't believe it's mainly political - that's not really the Green Day way and I don't think it ever will be... they're only about as political as System of a Down, if even that
"sk8a h8a u really dnt look like the person to like avril lavigne" Look at what I'm holding... a bass guitar - Avril's bassist is an absolute legend and if you've never had a listen to his bass lines (in any Avril song), you're missing out, especially if you think Green Day have good bass lines coz lately they're just utterly mediocre, although the old stuff is pretty cool

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Wednesday, 14 Sep 2005 17:27)

Really? Avril's bassist has some good riffs? I never woulda figured... I'll look around and try some out.

>>By Urbane   (Friday, 16 Sep 2005 02:21)

I'm a long time Green Day fan, love em' to death....but unfortunately, thier new stuff is dumb....for any of you who have not seen the music video for when september ends, the first minute and a half is just this guy and girl promising eachother that they will be together forever. Sorry, but that is not Green Day. I only hope that they can someday dig back within themselves and create something a bit more reminiscent of Nimrod, Dookie, Insomniac, Kerplunk, etc. I hate seeing BIllie Joe wearing fucking eyeliner...Jesus!

>>By Artemis7.0   (Sunday, 12 Feb 2006 08:37)

If he wants to wear eyeliner, nothing wrong with that... the fact that he looks like a leper shouldn't affect your opinion of the music - the sort of people who care what he looks like are typically the sort who like this new cack
But the fact is that Green Day have never played complicated music and I ain't saying that's a bad thing but now they've started to turn that to their advantage commercially; instead of making simple but powerful music, they're making rubbish which is designed to sell an image coz the music is coming second to the money - and in marketing music an image sells more than a sound, so the sound has lost out in favour of this ridiculous but saleable image

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Sunday, 12 Feb 2006 20:37)

I'm not asking for market analysis...I already know why they are doing what they are doing. All I'm saying is that its sad that old Green Day and their old attitude is no longer there. I doubt that if 'King for a Day' or 'Nice Guys Finish Last' came out today it would have as much hooplah surrounding as the emo junk their putting out now....oh well.

>>By Artemis7.0   (Sunday, 12 Feb 2006 22:12)

greenday's old stuff is good.. but i'm really not into any of their new stuff.. meh, that's just my opinion though.

>>By ya-im-cool   (Monday, 13 Feb 2006 03:17)

i love green day....

>>By Lydia15   (Saturday, 11 Mar 2006 19:56)

You think it's sad that a couple of guys want to make loads of money, given the opportunity? No offence, but get real! That's the American way, is it not? I think these entrepeneurs are doing a great thing by flooding popular radio with music which is at the very least better than Good Charlotte - and who knows? Maybe when they've converted a few more teeny boppers to music which is at least guitar-based instead of electronically synthesized, they'll do a turn back to what they used to be and that's a few million less Britney Spears fans listening to anything the radio tells them is great

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Saturday, 11 Mar 2006 21:06)

The whole point of music, and the arts in general is not to see how much money you make. This thing that we are seeing with Green Day happens to alot of musicians...they've been playing their awesome style for years, and then some corporate monster seduces them with big money and a hefty fan-share if they agree to put aside their original intent and step into a glamorized shadow of their original style. That's whats happened, yeah they are still recognizably Green Day, but they aren't anything that their old fans really respect anymore....well thats what i think at least. Fuck making millions, they are probably already in debt up to their eyeballs.

>>By Artemis7.0   (Monday, 20 Mar 2006 06:05)

Nothing lasts forever

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Monday, 20 Mar 2006 18:34)

Ahh, Artemis someone with the save view as me!

I fucking loved their old stuff, Dookie, Warning and Insomniac (it grew on me)...

But I kinda lost respect for the band after American Idiot. It's appaling... lost all the originality which makes Green Day...

I'm ashamed to say I even bought the album... yes I'd heard American Idiot but I thought I'd give it the chance considering albums such as Warning which has Misery (one of my fave songs by Green Day) on it. However... I was highly dissapointed to find that The whole American Idiot album sounds the same...

Where has their originality gone? Some corprate sucked it out of them is my guess...

But then what pisses me off is that all these teeny boppers of the age of 13 are praising them... *sigh*....

Never heard decent music evidently... because if I mention the other albums and songs to them the look blank and dumb... well okaey... they look dumb anyways...

I want the old Green Day back! *sob*

Lynz xx

P.S Sk8a H8a darlin'. You can have my American Idiot album... listened to it once... never again....

>>By DamnedCause   (Wednesday, 22 Mar 2006 15:28)

Personally I love American Idiot. I think it's becoming some kinda weird trend to hate Greenday's new material. Maybe it's because your little band you liked to carry around in your back pocket is suddenly out there in the mainstream and you don't want to conform or something...I dunno. Musically speaking A.I. is far more advanced than the previous albums. More thought put into lyrics and production yet still keeping their feet firmly cemented in the punk rock pavement. This album had some awesome tracks and some excellent riffs, I loved the bridge from st. jimmy and the "I don't care" bit in J.O.S. some really punky riffage going on there. It's not my fav album, that would have to be Nimrod...but it's definitely not the worst. As for B.J.s voice sounding stupid...well that's just an opinion. Personally I love his whole nasal congestion thing he's got going on. oh, and Greenday Rule. The end. ; )

>>By endless_nameless   (Saturday, 13 May 2006 15:42)

well at least greenday are out there and its not just r&b taking over. maybe they dont have the edge they used to,and it does put me off that they are american,a bit like the beastie boys.

>>By scarletnikki   (Saturday, 13 May 2006 15:51)

"Musically speaking A.I. is far more advanced than the previous albums. More thought put into lyrics and production yet still keeping their feet firmly cemented in the punk rock pavement. This album had some awesome tracks and some excellent riffs"
That's just crying out to be disagreed with... anyway, the Green Day formula has always been like that of System of a Down - simple but powerful and now they've just turned that into a device for mainstream commercialisation... personally I'm totally in favour of any "weird trend to hate Greenday's new material"
By the way, "his whole nasal congestion thing" is a useful phrase... you may love it but that's exactly the reason I reckon it sounds stupid, combined with his American accent
