Jus' one thing - you can't compare Green Day and Nirvana - I love both of 'em, plus I have such a wide range in my taste of music - I love (rock) music from Placebo to KoRn, Incubus to Radiohead..etc etc.. Firstly, everyone has their own taste in music - if you don't like it, fair enough, but you can't just go round slagging it off, if you haven't given it a chance!! Secondly, Punk and grunge are two completely different types of music!!How can you compare 'em and say which one is better?? Its kinda funny, cuz the guy i was mostally in love with worshipped Green Day, so i decided that i would delve into his passion a little so that maybe we would have more to talk about than swimming records (we were on a swim team together). So i bought Nimrod, and instantly fell in love with Green Day. And then i bought dookie, and then Warning, and then Superhits, and i became a crazed fanatic. Turns out i did not end up getting this guy of my dreams, but it was all good cuz i could go home every night and listen to Billy Joe sing like "a british guy imitating an American imitating a british guy..." So short and short of it, a swimmer named Jimmy got me hooked on Billy Joe, Mike, and Tre'....and at least i still have my dignity...-ish >>By Artemis7.0 all i have 2 say is there awsome!!!!!!! rock on!!! >>By RaNcId_StAr GreenDay is the best band there could be for that music. I love it! Nirvana's good but their musics slightly different, so if you compare them it wont exactly be correct. I had been a HUGE fan of Green Day up until a week ago or so when I first heard of their newest hit "American Idiot". Now I know that GD has never been too fond of our country-it's obvious. Well I'm not sure how to put this into words, but I'm gonna try... I was 18 on 9/11/2001 and didn't have a care in the world until then. But, once tragedy struck our nation pulled together so tightly that I felt it was time for me to start caring and I'm sure that there are plenty of those out there who have the same story. Since then, I haven't had one bad thought about the U.S. And, you know, I am the minority in lots of ways. But, that song almost implies that America is a "minority" yet this time it's not a good thing, according to GD. Bottom Line- Green Day shouldn't act like America is the dumps b/c it's obviously a great country. And they shouldn't influence other Americans in such a negative way, it's simply stupid. And if they really really hate our country, then maybe they should consider joining some of our enemies in the middle east. I am not a big Green Day fan, but I truly believe that america needs bands like green day who have the guts to speak out their disagreement with what is going on in america and what they are doing to the rest of the world. 9/11 is one of the darkest days in my life as well, but seen in perspective of history a dark day waiting to happen. I don't agree with the bombers (please don't get me wrong on that one) there is never any excuse to go and kill 1000's of innocent people (for that matter never a reason to kill anyone, innocent or guilty, according to me), but maybe you should go and see where they came from, their motives and the way their countries have been in contact with the USA. I do believe that would make you much less patriotic then you do sound to me now. For all those people just here to discuss the music of Green Day, I hope you excuse me for this little interuption. I came here to say that I loved the new single, and I was happely surprised to see the political engagment of one of the few punkpop bands that I hold high (Next to NoFX). And I do hope that they wil keep up the good work and try to reach the basket-cases like the above writer. >>By Campking You know what I find really shocking after 9/11. The owners of ground zero, according to sky news, are actually trying to sue saudi arabia because 9 of the 15 where from there. How they even think they could get any money with a case like that just sounds hysterically funny to me.
