Joel and Benji may have been poor growing up and may have had to work to keep food on the table or to keep their car running.

I read somewhere that when their dad left them on Christmas Eve in 1995, there mother had to get a job to support her children. But when she was dianosed with lupus, and put in a hospital, Benji and Joel felt resposible for keeping the family afloat, so they picked up whatever work they could find.

I thought that Benji and Joel had an older brother and sister named Sarah and Josh, so while their family was going through this crisis, where were Josh and Sarah? Strangely enough....they are not mentioned helping Joel and Benji earn money to pay the bills or to pay for gas for the car!
Werid!

what's the obsession with fueling the car? GC are a bunch of no-talent losers.

>>By Bitch Fit   (Sunday, 12 Dec 2004 22:16)

GC are not a bunch of no-talent losers!

>>By saphira   (Sunday, 12 Dec 2004 23:36)

yeah boo hoo heaps of people have survived through worse childhoods than that and haven't gone on to annoy the world with pathetically annoying pop music

>>By Jade_Ilona   (Monday, 13 Dec 2004 00:49)

Yeah, maybe some people have survived through worse childhoods that they have, but at least they don't try to forget about how bad it was,,,,,,,,,,they try to help others who are or have gone through the same thing they did. They may not be they only guys who have had a Son of a Bitch dad leave them but their probably the only ones who have shared their story with the world to let others know that their not alone, that this kind of thing can happen to anyone!

>>By saphira   (Monday, 13 Dec 2004 02:06)

many people before good charlotte did that

>>By Jade Ilona   (Monday, 13 Dec 2004 07:30)

Oh well, some people may find GC's songs annoying or whatever, but they have still helped some teenagers through depression or hard times such as divorce or being rejected by peers or family members.

Their songs still have some meaning to them, not all their songs are about girl meets boy, boy dumps girl or vise versa, there about things that really happen in this F****ed up world that were living in!

>>By saphira   (Tuesday, 14 Dec 2004 00:11)

okay...i just got done reading all these posts...and some of them really piss me off...sure everyone is entitled to their own opinion...therefore so am i..

Good Charlotte kicks ass. Bull fucking shit there songs dont have meanings...Emotionless, Hold on..have meaning....and for all this poser punk shit...and saying that if they didnt dress like they do, there wouldnt be so many poser fans. GC most likely fucking dresses like they do, because they WANT to. And it's their style..They are just being themselves...To call them posers, its so fucking wrong..They are just doing what they do best..And by dressing that way, i dont think they are trying to attract some stupid teenie-boppers,or poser fans.. If they want to wear those types of clothes, and that make-up, let it be. And if stupid poser fans want to copy them, let them make a fool out of themselves. Good Charlotte obviously is in this business because they want to, and they are damn good at it. And because they sing a certain type of music, you call them posers..WTF?! And i do agree that if you just listen to a band because of looks, you're not a true fan...But on the other hand, what the hell is wrong with saying someone in the band is hot?...you guys seriously need to set your priorites straight...If all you can do is diss bands, and its fans, you need fucking help....

you really don't know what your talking about. major label bands do what they do to make money. it's part of their contract. they don't care about you. once a band gets signed to a major label they cease to be punk rock. punk rock has nothing to do with the mainstream and it never will. the record label owns them. they tell them how to dress, what to write, how to sing, everything. major labels are here to make money off people like you. they want you to think that the band is just a bunch of young cool down to earth guys. how are they gonna sell any records if they don't look cool or sing about teenage problems. your a target. a commercial target to make rich people richer.

>>By jimakane   (Tuesday, 14 Dec 2004 01:40)

and you know that how?

>>By x LoSt sOuL 27 x   (Tuesday, 14 Dec 2004 02:02)

BULLSHIT, honestly i think its you (jimakane) who doesn't know what their talking about. When a band gets signed, yeah sure they may think about how much money their gonna make and how their gonna spend it, but i doubt if they forget about their fans. I doubt if Good Charlotte is just using their fans to make money,,,,,,,,,,,if it wasn't for us (the fans) they would be nothing! Bands may get signed but without fans they would never be anyone!

jimakane: How the hell do you think that your fav bands got to where they are?

And if Good Charlotte is just using their fans to make money then does that mean that all the other bands that are rich and famous are using their fans too? (Yeah right!) Maybe some bands (including GC) like to make music because its what they like to do!

>>By saphira   (Tuesday, 14 Dec 2004 02:23)

and you do make a point...some-what....but yet to a fan of GC, or at least me, i wish to believe that what your saying is not true. And if you dont personally know GC, i dont think you have the authority to tell me that. You may be older or more "mature" about this subject. But i dont care, I am stating my own opinion on a band i love. For a second your post actually made me doubt my favorite band. But ive come to realize, GC may or may not be like the bands you were talking about. But i dont care, i love them, i love what they have to offer. And i say fuck you to all the people who doubt them..

>>By x LoSt sOuL 27 x   (Tuesday, 14 Dec 2004 02:23)

oh by the way..that was to jimakane..not you saphira..

>>By x LoSt sOuL 27 x   (Tuesday, 14 Dec 2004 02:25)

"fuck you" wow thats mature your saying that your entitled to an opinion but to anyone else who has an opinion on the subject you say "fuck you". my my, is that what good charlotte is teaching the youth of today?

>>By Jade Ilona   (Tuesday, 14 Dec 2004 12:58)

hey, i've just worked for major labels before. i know the routine. think about this.... lets say GC was a bunch of fat hairy men. that wouldn't be too appealing to a female teenage youth would it?. would you still like them? chances are they probably wouldn't have gotten signed. their young appeal helped them get where they are. they are marketable. they look like the everyday kid. they deal with teenage issues. all to make you buy their CD. you gotta read between the lines. don't get mad about it. it's just the truth. do you really think that if you met the band that they would really care. not unless of course your a really good looking chick who would blow them backstage. your one in a million of people. you pay to see their shows. you pay to get that new shirt or CD. eventually you end up being a tool to the industry. don't buy in to the mainstream. have your own opinion and ideas, not GC's.

>>By jimakane   (Tuesday, 14 Dec 2004 20:55)

so are you saying that every "mainstream" band is like that? and even if you have, dont you think there is a possibility GC is different from any other band...

>>By x LoSt sOuL 27 x   (Tuesday, 14 Dec 2004 22:50)

their music is any different from all that other crap of the same genre e.g. sum 41, new found glory ect, so why would their philosophy be any different?

>>By Jade Ilona   (Wednesday, 15 Dec 2004 00:24)

i dont know....different people i guess....

>>By x LoSt sOuL 27 x   (Wednesday, 15 Dec 2004 00:57)

all i'm saying is,.. don't put the entirety of your heart into it. there are thousands of other bands out there. even more bands that sound like GC. there is stuff you've never even heard of before that's better than GC. you appreciate bands you like more when it's something you discovered, not something that's popular, or someone that everone else listens to, or someone on t.v. the best thing about listening to music is finding a bad ass band that no one has ever heard of. and that's how bands get popular. by people discovering them over and over again. of course GC loves their fans, you helped them buy their million dollar house, their outragiously lavish cars. while you and me bust our ass to live in some crummy apartment. well, ...some of us. so do the little bands a favor, and spend your hard earned money on something undiscovered, something under the cracks of society. cause that's where life really is.

I'm going to a GC concert in march (actually on the twins birthday) and I'm really looking forward to it :)

don't hate me ok?

>>By Mekko   (Wednesday, 5 Jan 2005 12:22)

Wow Mekko, thats really cool that you get to go to a Good Charlotte concert, especially since it's on the twins birthday!

I have never been to a GC concert yet. A guy my sister works with likes GC too and he's been trying to get us tickets to one of their concerts. Hopefully he will be successful.

>>By saphira   (Thursday, 6 Jan 2005 00:55)

Hey, did anybody out there hear about Joel Madden's new years resolutions?

Madden says, "My New Year's resolutions are to work on (my label) DC FLAG RECORDS and MADE CLOTHING, sponsor two kids in Asia, get involved with Africa, go to church more, get married, make a baby, and write and produce for other people."

>>By saphira   (Monday, 10 Jan 2005 03:28)

Funny how each of those is less likely than the last... Joel is an idiot.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Tuesday, 11 Jan 2005 22:35)

Yeah, well I will agree that each of his resolutions are less likely than the last but I don't think he's an idiot.

>>By saphira   (Tuesday, 11 Jan 2005 23:53)

Think about the whole "if it weren't for us fans then GC would be nothing" comment. Did you know about GC while they were still an obscure name scribbled in sharpie on a cassette tape somewhere. No, because although they may have been buddies when they were young, it was the major record label that brought them to you and yours. They signed on a group of young good looking guys that can play a few power chords because they knew that once they dressed them up in the newfangled goth/punk/emo garb, you guys would just eat it up. Its for money. The big industry dogs know what to do to make them look like these guys genuinely care about their fans, methods that may even involve extra bucks in the contract in exchange for displaying that addictive rebellious adolescent image. But you are right, they could just be the one band out of thousands that signed to a MAJOR RECORD LABEL without any thought about the wealth involved.

>>By Artemis7.0   (Wednesday, 12 Jan 2005 00:14)

I doubt if anyone knew about GC when they were an obscure name scribbled in sharpie on a cassette tape somewhere, except for their parents, neighbors, or people who went to their shows or whatever. And yeah, it probably was the major record label that brought them to people all over the world.

>>By saphira   (Wednesday, 12 Jan 2005 00:24)

Sorry for whoeber is offended by this, but i find good charlotte to be one of the shittiest bands around..

>>By pinkfluffybrickmeister   (Wednesday, 12 Jan 2005 16:51)

The record label did not bring "them", it brought an image, an idea with four good looking boys to portray that idea. It's all money business, nothing more, nothing less.

>>By Artemis7.0   (Wednesday, 12 Jan 2005 19:02)

See, I don't think they're good-looking... surely the only reason they were signed is that they're willing to sell themselves. Good looks on Good Charlotte are just good make-up artists.

>>By Sk8a H8a   (Wednesday, 12 Jan 2005 20:37)

Why Does Everyone seem to hate Good Charlotte? Just because they signed on a major record deal, and are on MTV? Maybe, just maybe they really don't want to be on MTV, but all of the teenies, keep "voting" for them on TRL, or what not. And if I had the opportunity to sign on a major record deal too, I would because it would appeal to me, I mean at least you know that your music is going to reach out to the soon to be fans, and your message will get across to more people. And yeah, the bands that arnt signed to major labels, their music will still get to their fans, but maybe Good Charlotte wanted everyone to be able to listen to their music, and fast. You all can't assume that they did it for the money and fame. Yeah, its a possibility, I agree with that, and I know a lot of bands are just out their to do that, but I don't think GC, is one of those bands..They just seem different then the rest, I dont know why, but they do..And I think more people should give them a damn chance.
