Gang of four is sweet. Why hasn't anybody heard any of this stuff? "at home he feels like a tourist" harsh guitar. pumpin' groove

seriously though....

people who got into gang of four did not sit round on their arses and proclaim the glories of days gone by... that is in fact the opposite of what they were about because i was there then and am here now to tell you that the concert hall was packed in 1984 with serious people who were some of the most unique and diverse in comparison which i have seen assembled

pere ubu was a very similar experience really... even in the midwest there was a deep awareness of the value of this band and the impact moved people off into their various directions and convictions

**************** talk about the music****************

when i hear 'thats entertainment' i was hooked

natural's not in it seemed to be the very crux of my realization that relationships and 'delusions of love' were clouding my ability to appreciate the simple truth of individual struggle and personal knowing in the modern urban decay of our addiction to crass commercialism ... songs of the free followed hard

solid gold actually came a bit later for me after i had gone to the concert and realized that i might like every release this band ever put out... until i hear 'is it love'
which was a frightening departure from the dissonance i was accustomed to at that point

i will admit to being disheartened for about 15 years until i realized that there were so many good releases to sink my mind into that one pailing in comparison meant little... maybe it was the lack of interest in the specifically jaded disco track about feminism... i have always been contrary to slick views of complex issues

anyway.... imagine my surprise when the next generation was rockin out to a brief history of the twentieth century release... it is all you need really but i suggest nabbing any vinyl you can find from this gang of four because the document has untold treasures to be sure... look close in the inscriptions

************* recent tour **********************

ok... which one of you anglophiles got your arse up and went to check this gig out??

stop by my site and give us the full scoop

Gang of Four played in Houston on October 11, 2005. The show was assertive, confident, crisp. energetic, timeless and tight. Vintage 1980, but much better. Same dance moves, posturing and poses from 1980. Hard to believe men from the mid-40's to early-50's could still move like young men. The bass and drums seemed to be mixed slightly up for a more contempary sound. I wished more songs included the recorder instrument and my favorite song "Outside the Trains Do Not Run on Time" was not played. Overall an excellent show. If you miss the 2005 show then check out the new "Return the Gift" CD. The CD has many of the songs played in the show and has a live studio sound.
