I know this is an awful question, but I feel as if I am going crazy! I remember about a year ago reading that Etta James had died. I was so sad to hear the news. Now, I pick up the paper and find she is in concert! Where did I get the idea that she had had a heart attack?

I fell in love with Etta's voice when I was about 15 years old. Around the time "Pushover" came out! Well over 40 years ago. You never hear the "oldies" stations play her songs on the radio. Pop, Blues, Jazz..whatever. I believe they did induct her into the Blues Hall of Fame, after she died, a little late, I think, by about 25 years! Every song on the Chess 50th Anniversary CD is great, "AT LAST" stands alone as the best ever! But, I like "pushover', "tell mama" and especially "Sunday kind of Love" myself. As far as I'm concerned, Aretha!.....take a step back, your in Etta's light!! I (a white boy from Alabama) think she is the greatest female singer ever!

Seen Etta last night in Denver 5/9/03
She is amazing.....funny...sexy....and what a professional voice of all time!
Her band is simply a great back up for her, I laughed and cryed and my hands are sore this morning from clapping to the music. On second song I cryed and I cryed when it ended!
God bless her for coming to Denver and Please come back!
I will be on the fifth row again!

I have listened to Etta James since I was child because my mother listened to her and Aretha faithfully. Plus my aunt was a member of the Marvelettes and later New Birth, so music is in my blood. Ms James has one of the most distinctive voices in the world. She soars with notes and hyms from the growl of a tiger to the scream of an African warrior. Etta is in my opinion, one of the most influential and powerful singers in the world, yet she never gets the credit and respect she deserves. My favorite songs by her are " I Wsh Someone Would Care" and "Damn Your Eyes" . Etta James and Aretha Franklin are the Goddesses to soul music like Athena and Aprhrodite are to Greek Mythology.

etta james is the bomb!! No one can take a song and make it tell a story as well as she can. I remember listening to her when I was a child because my mother use to listen to her. "Fool that I am" is the song I remember so well but I never knew who sang it. Now I know! I hope she continues to perform for her fans.

I have been listening to Etta since I was 9 and there is something in her voice that has always given me comfort. I had a hard childhood and with each song she helped me to work through my pain and teenager years to learn who I was and could be. And helped me to become a very strong women. I dont think she knows the degree to which she has changed my life. I 'am a full time college student (my major is music) and the influence she has made on my life is signifigant. I am persuing my dreams and passing her dynamic voice and powerful lyrics to my young daughter. The impact she will have on her I hope will be as great as it was with me. There are few people in life that leave an imprint for me it is Ms. James and I will always remain a fan . I'am thankful to of had her presence in my life.

I just was at Etta's concert in Sacramento on July 2, 2003, and it was the best ever. I just want to say thank you Etta for making me laugh, cry, and for bringing happiness back into my life. At a low point in my life your music and voice brought me back from my depression. I love you and thank God for one of the most unique voices I've heard. God bless you with many more years of beautiful music and happy life with your family and grandchildren. Always and forever a fan, Annette Stark

I absolutely love Etta's song "At Last" I know I have heard it in more than one movie. I am looking to find out just which movies this song has been in. If any can help - I would really appreciate it! So far, the only movie I have found is "It Had To Be You" and I've never seen that one! Now it's on the must see list. Thanks in advance for your help!

Heard a song by Etta on the radio the other day, and I thought, Wow, now I know where Janis Joplin was coming from. Just did a search & found this quote: - ETTA JAMES: "I began feeling proud to be her role model. When I heard her sing, I recognized my influence, but I also heard the electricity and rage in her own voice. I loved her attitude."
-1 to Janis and +5 to Etta!
But still, if you like Etta, check out Janis, I recken her best is on "Cheap Thrills" with Big Brother and the Holding Company.
