Discussion: Elbow

Amazing LP that. Amazing intro ,amazing outro. I've had for one year now and it sounds more subtle, more mysterious than ever. But this is not mysterious in the Pink Floyd way, simple fiction in audio, this is mystery that can be solved.

well, i picked up "cast of thousands" about 4 months ago and it totally intrigued me. i've never heard music quite like this. i guess you could call it radiohead with a more mellow, melodic centre but that just might be seeling these guys short. this stuff is intelligent, calming, experimental and fun. pick up the record if you're not afraid of something new.

I think they are an extremely great rock group and should be paid close attention the next few years. Thier sound is pretty close to Doves in my opinion. Personally, I like the first album better than the second one. I've been trying to listen to the second album more and more but none of the tracks except "Fallen Angel" really catch my attention like "Little Beast", "New Born", or "Bitten by the Tailfly" did. I guess Asleep in the Back was the darker of the two albums. So if you prefer something a little somber then go with the first album.

This band is exceptional and deserves much more than comparisons to the inferior Doves and Coldplay.
It's funny how Coldplay has become one of the biggest bands on the planet, but Elbow, a far more talented band with a slightly similar sound and infinitely better songwriting, can't even hold a record deal.
Hopefully the Mercury win changes all that.
