Cheap Trick

Forum

Just have to tell you that you are way off in your "musical search". Maybe because I'm a generation "x" who grew up listenining to them, and people think I'm a freak half of the time, because I love them so. Or maybe it's because the people they've been associated to in their musical career vary so much. We're talking, Motley Crue, Ann Wilson, Top Gun Soundtracks, Billy Corrigan, etc. They are awesome, and probably one of the less played bands around (except maybe in Japan). Anyways, I may be just a dork, but I love them and have been growing with them for 29 years, and I am extremely proud of it. (and them).

Cheap Trick is one of the greatest bands if not the greatest band in existence. They are a band that I listen to and say, "they just don't make music like that anymore." I'm sure somebody is somewhere, but you sure as hell won't hear it on any radio. Most "classic rock" stations waste their time with the played out Zeppelin shit or the Stones or depressing and boring old crap. But ironically enough, despite the fact that Cheap Trick's level of excellence is practically never approached these days, (and indeed that seems more and more like an impossibility when you listen to some crap coming out now), they still sound incredibly fresh and positive, as well as rockin', even by the standards of someone who lived through the whole grunge thing. I discovered Cheap Trick after Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, etc. and although some of them were influenced by Cheap Trick, they mostly fail to capture that fresh spirit. I suppose the Cheap Trick could be compared to the Beatles, and perhaps Fleetwood Mac, but they also have that playfull innocence of Boston and some of the 80's crap which was, make no mistake, complete and utter crap. Cheap Trick just got better in the 80's as far as I am convinced. Many fans, and perhaps even some members of the band, don't think much of the 1985 release Standing on the Edge. The record companies stopped making it, which was in my opinion absurd. Standing on the Edge remains my favorite Cheap Trick album, but that spot is shared with Next Position Please, One on One, and Busted. And Dream Police. Those are all "my favorite Cheap Trick album". I recently read an interview with drummer Bun E. Carlos, where he said that the reason why the song "Up the Creek" was never released on a CT record is that "it sucks". Even the members of Cheap Trick themselves don't know how good they are!

I agree, Cheap Trick is the best band ever! I have been a fan for 20. I am 34 now and still rockin' out to them!
I LOVE "Up The Creek" too!!!
Cheap Trick should have more more famous than the Rolloing Stones. They have had such hard luck. But that never stopped them.
No one is better on stage or nicer in person.

As much as I love this band, (and the CT logo tattoo on my leg shows I'm a fan), I'm sorry Ian, but they released some crap too in the '80s, none more so, than their worse ever album, 'The Doctor' That just sucks.

But I agree that they're still the best ever rock band, (just not infallible!)
and they should be HUGE.

I recently re-discovered Cheap Trick on VH1 Classic. They are now the favorite band of my teenage son and I. They have great rockers (Never Had a Lot to Lose, Dream Police, etc.) and beautiful ballads
(Ghost Town, If You Want My Love, etc.). This is an excellent band that seems to be overlooked.

In promulgating your esoteric cogitations and articulating your superficial sentimentalities, amicable philosophical and psychological observations, beware of platitudinous ponderosities...
