if you dont know beefheart you should. get Trout Mask Replica. listen to "Moonlight on Vermont". Beefheart is a nut job but he's pretty funny and pretty stream of consciousness.

Pirate Froth.........Lick My Decals Off, Baby is a much better execution of the ideas Don was trying to put forth on Trout Mask.

I Highly recommend it if you like Trout Mask

Captain Beefheart 'Trout Mask Replica' is the most amazing music experience ever. . .You MUST listen to this album at least 3 times in a row.. .The first time, you will hate it, by the 3rd time, you realize how amazing it is and can listen to nothing else. ..Its amazing how it developes to you.

Interesting story, to create this album, the band lived in a cabin in the middle of nowhere for 9 months, each week one person would be allowed to go get food. ..and they did nothing but rehearse. . .they then went into the studio with Zappa and laid the album down in about 4 hours. . .I believe. . so basically its a live recording. . .

When you first hear the album, you will thikn that it sounds bad and nothing fits togehter, then after a few listens you realize how freaking tight the band is and how perfectly everything collides, its truely an amazing experience and will expand your horizons on music. . .Steal Softly Through Snow is an amazing track

Captain Beefheart is not, I repeat, not easy listening. It is music for people who are willing to explore new horizons and develop new interests beyond conventional music.

I was first introduced to Captain Beefheart years ago by an old college friend who is heavily into Zappa. We were playing cards one evening and he put Safe As Milk on his stereo and I almost choked, saying what on earth is this??

However, there were excerpts in places that intruged me and after the first listen, I thought I'd give it another go and after that I realised that the first time I was only listening out for things I wanted to listen to.

This will definately not appeal to everyone but then unlike conventional music, it is something that requires a large amount of patience.

The Captain has left the building, probably with his mascara snake. God knows what mayhem he's causing in the place where he's gone, but its gained what we've lost. Crazy man, great artist.
