I've only heard BLONDE ON BLONDE, BLOOD ON THE TRACKS, HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED (all three of which I own), and BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME, which I sadly do not have a legal copy of (yet!).

What other albums should I seek out? JOHN WESLEY HARDING?

>>By Spiff   (Tuesday, 19 Oct 2004 05:03)

I'm not a dylan afficiando. I hear John Wesley Harding is excellent. I have Blonde on Blonde, Hwy 61, Desire, Another Side Of, and Freewheelin.

Do you like Sad Eyed Lady from BOB? It's one of my favourites.

Hey friends,
There's a great new artist out there, who obviously has a strong Dylan influence. Her name is Holly Williams (yes, Hank's grandaughter) , and she's just come out with "The Ones We Never Knew". It's definitely worth checking out, for Dylan fans! I had the opportunity to listen to her through my internship at Universal, too bad they were too cheap to give me an advance CD:(

I saw Bob Zimmerman(Dylan) in August 02 right before I joined the military and I have to say it was the greatest experience I have ever had. I loved the way he worked up the set from slow, quiet, rolling tunes to loud, rip roaring tunes and it all flowed together brilliantly. I didn't realize he could pick the guitar so great. His lyrics are great, he sounds like Hendrix the way he almost talks during the songs, I was in awe.
The thing that amazed me the most was thinking how the late great John Allen Hendricks(Jimi Hendrix) was inspired by Bob 40 or so years ago, and yet Jimi passed 35 years ago and Bob is still rockin. Another thing that most of the younger generation don't know is that Jimi's only hit in the US was a Bob cover, "All Along the Watchtower". I don't know where this country would be if it wasn't for Bob, maybe still fighting in Veitnam.
Anyway, I think the greatest cd is Highway 61 Revisited. I also would like to read about Bob and his influences on the world, if anyone knows any good books please do tell. I'm going to check Amazon.

One more thing, when I was in high school I had to interpret my favorite song. I chose "Stairway To Heaven" and I was stumped after looking all over the internet to find the meaning, so I finally asked my teacher. He said, "it's obviously about death, I can't believe you didn't realize that?" I said, "Well, it could be about life too because it talks about hope and life lessons". He disagreed and recently I read an interview with Jimmy Page and he said Robert Plant says there was never a meaning, the words just flowed good with the music. This proves that someone can interpret a song anyway they want, but most of the time the songwriter doesn't think about the meaning. When you interpret a song, think of what comes to mind for yourself, just like a book, there's always different perspectives, and none are ever wrong.

One more thing to ponder, what's Jakob Dylan up to these days?

DYLAN (Sweden, 1966): I don't ... uh ... my ... oh God. No. (Laughs) No. I'm not ... I'm not gonna sit here and and do that. I've uh, you know, I've been up all night, I've taken some pills, I've eaten bad food and I've read about wrong things and I've been out for a hundred mile an hour car ride and, uh, I'm just not gonna sit here and talk about myself as a protest singer or anything like that.

When will he release a new album? I'm looking forward to it whenever it gets published.

>>By EnergizedWave   (Monday, 10 Jul 2006 05:35)

Hi All,

To answer EnergizedWave, Bob's new album Modern Times is due out 29th August and the pre - release reveiws say it is some of his best work for years, which is a bold statement concidering his back catalogue.

To Spiff - give Time Out Of Mind a try, i think its a great album - Not Dark Yet is one of my favourite Bob tracks. Planet Waves is a great album even if you just get it for Forever Young which is my favourite song.

I think Dylan is fantastic poet, songwriter, etc. Ive only heard - Bod Dylan(first album), Times they are a changin, blonde on blonde, Bringin it all back home, Highway 61 and i also saw "unplugged" and "No direction home", but i wanna hear the rest as he's also got me into Woody Guthrie, Johnny cash, Leadbelly, other delta blues and folk singers.

Some of his songs dont even have a particular meaning it only means what it means to you.

I'm 53 & I've seen a lot of bands & music acts but finally seeing Dylan play in Cardiff last June p'raps was the best gig I've ever attended. The guy more than knows what he wants & needs to put across & he delivered in spadefuls. We're talking so much class & experience here.
The crowd were all ages & everyone seemed equally thrilled & enthusiastic. He's awesome, brilliant.

bob dylan himself states on the tape of his 1965 european tour" a hard rain is gonna fall just means something bad is gonna happen"

>>By deerslayer   (Monday, 28 May 2007 00:54)

in a 45 year career bob dylan has never taken one misstep and then to come out with a self produced (jack frost) recording as masterful as modern times is downright astounding...and he makes it all seem so easy!!!!!

>>By deerslayer   (Thursday, 31 May 2007 15:24)

He's awesome, although I haven't heard any of his more recent stuff.

There's a scene in one of my favourite books where a character sits in a car on a pier waiting to die, and listens to a tape of the song 'Like a Rolling Stone'. It's one of my favourite songs.
