Discussion: Blof

hi i'm in holland on a dutch exchange doing work experience for a local newspaper called the Flevopst. I had been set the task of reviewing blofs album to see how it compared english music. Immediatley i found the language barrior hard, as i really like to understand and sing along with the words also from the people i have talked to they have told me blof use very poetic terms which i feel i am missing out on. Althoough after a few listens to the album i eventually got into it. It has quite an eclectic feel to it with the use of different instruments, i immediatley compared them to the american band creed as they have a similar sound. After a bit of background research i found that one of the band members (drummer) had died, I feel this is widley represented through the music as theres a lot of somber tones and an overall slow rythems with the acception of a few songs. On saying that i feel the more somber songs are the most effective no. 3 being my favorite, thoguh theres a lot of music like this around at the moment and they didn't stand out to me as different, i feel if they want to break out of Holland they need to add a more contempory feel to the music they are producing.

Hey! Blof on Flork! Dutch band with music in their own language with real poetic lyrics. To me they were at their best in the beginning when their music was infact quite simple but effective in a way that it accentuated the poems perfectly to feel and understand the words. The're still great but the musicdirection now has found a way more to the 'mass'. Lyrics are still great, aswell the music is, but to me the 'Blof'-chemistry has lost it's power: great music with great lines. Yet still very o.k.
