ok, Ben Harper is like my ALLLLL time favorite artist cuz I am very depressed and his music is the only thing that can ever get through to me....but I really want to find some other similar music to his...what would be some good suggestions...(mellow...depressing, slow, sad music...)

Ben Harper is one of my all time favs too. He is all real, not like all this pop artists going around. Bens music and lyrics really means somethin thats why he is so good

the latest issue of rolling stone magazine in australia has ben harper on the cover. i read this blurb about the issue on the rolling stone website:

Ben live is such an amazing experience. I saw him 6/8/03 at a huge outdoor (7,000 ppl) concert, and somehow managed to get myself into the 3rd/4th row! You can believe that I was near tears the whole time! Ben is beyond words, he's just so one of a kind. Wow, wow, wow!

Ben has incredible vocal abilities, thought provoking lyrics, touching music and charisma-plus!!! He is nothing short of breath-taking. His music reaches a diverse audience and whenever I play anything by him, my friends always inquire as to who it is and comment on how beautiful it sounds. He is definitely my favorite artist and I'm looking forward to the day I get to see him play live!

I attended Ben Harper's concert at the Hollywood Bowl in LA this past Monday (8/4/03) and was blown away! I'd seen him at the New Orleans Jazz Festival in May of this year, and frankly I wasn't that impressed. I actually bought the tickets for the Bowl concert to see Jack Johnson. But they were filming Ben's concert that night and I swear he was ON FIRE! I'm definitely a dedicated fan now!

By the way, someone asked who his parents were. I was told by a kid at the concert that his parents owned a guitar store, which is why Ben plays so many different guitars (among other instruments -- he went OFF on the congas at the Bowl).

BEN HARPER could be compared with Tracy Chapman, they both dig deep into their roots to create powerful songs, melodies, and lyrics. Ben Harper is a great song writer and composer. He finds the words we all sometimes would like to find to express our inner being and our soul. His music is has many different influences and it's a pleasure for the ears and for the hearts. I recomment such an artist for those who feel bad and need comfort....
